Scotland County R-1 School District

Carolyn Davies, a volunteer with the Oasis Tutoring Program at Scotland County Elementary School, presented a program to the members of the Rotary Club of Scotland County on December 17, 2025. The Oasis Tutoring Program is an intergenerational program. Oasis tutors work with students to strengthen reading, writing and language skills. Participating students between kindergarten and the third grade are identified by their teachers as needing support. Volunteers, age 50 and older, spend 30 minutes or more a week during the school day working one-on-one with students. OASIS tutoring volunteers also benefit from the one-on-one interactions with elementary students. For volunteers, the program promotes healthy aging through lifelong learning, active lifestyles and volunteer engagement. Davies is pictured with SC Rotary Club President, Kevin Brown.
