Board Candidate Filing for the Newspaper:
FILING DATES FOR SCOTLAND COUNTY R-I BOARD OF EDUCATION SET: The opening for filing for school board vacancies will be on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 8:00 A.M. in the Central Office Building. Ballot order on the first day of filing will be by random drawing. After that it will be in order of filing. Filing will close Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. The election will take place on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. It is important to note that the office will be closed Monday, December 22 through Monday, December 29, 2025. The office will be open from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
Candidates may file during open office hours in the Central Office Building. Three directors will be elected at the April 7, 2026 General Election for a three-year term.
Missouri Law requires all school board members to receive 18.5 hours of school board training within their first 12 months of service. If you need more information contact Ryan Bergeson, Superintendent or Michella Hull, Business Manager at 465-8531 or Jasmine Hamner, Central Office Secretary.
Qualifications for Board membership include citizenship in the United States, a resident taxpayer of the Scotland County R-I School District for a minimum of one year, and be at least 24 years of age. In addition, candidates for school board are subject to many of the same restrictions as candidates for other offices. All candidates for school board must have filed all previous required campaign disclosure reports with the Missouri Ethics Commission (MEC). They must be current on all state income taxes, personal property taxes, municipal taxes and real property taxes on the candidate’s residence as stated on the declaration of candidacy. If school is not in session on any day other than the first day of filing due to a cancellation of any kind, candidate filing will also be closed.
