The Smithsonian is coming to Memphis, Missouri!

We are honored to welcome the Smithsonian Institution’s traveling exhibit — Voices and Votes: Democracy in America — a powerful exploration of how everyday people help shape our democracy.

Your Voice. Your Vote. Your Community.

When American revolutionaries waged a war for independence, they took a leap of faith that sent ripple effects across generations. They embraced a radical idea: establishing a government that entrusted the power of the nation not in a monarchy, but in its citizens.

Our democracy demands action, reaction, vision, and revision as we continue to question how to form “a more perfect union.” This exhibit reminds us that democracy isn’t just something that happens on Election Day — it lives in our schools, our town halls, and our volunteer efforts.

From voting and running for public office to organizing parades and food drives, democracy is about people showing up and working together for the common good. This exhibit reminds us that everyone has a role to play.

Come explore the stories of civic engagement throughout American history — and reflect on how you will help shape the future of our communities.
