Tia Hamilton, High School Special Education

Tia Hamilton is a proud graduate of Scotland County R-1, where she now steps into her new role as a high school special education teacher. For the past five years, Tia has worked in the district as a dedicated paraprofessional, gaining hands-on experience and building strong relationships with students, staff, and families.

Tia also has several years of coaching experience, having led both junior high and varsity cheerleading teams. Her time as a coach reflects her passion for encouraging students not only academically, but also through extracurricular involvement that builds confidence, teamwork, and school spirit.

Tia is married to Derrick Hamilton, and together they have two children—Karli, who is currently pursuing a degree in nursing, and Kwayde, a sophomore at Scotland County High School. As both a parent and an educator, Tia is passionate about helping all students reach their full potential.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue serving our students in this new role,” Tia says. “As someone who grew up in this district and now has a child attending school here, I understand the importance of creating a supportive, inclusive environment. I’m committed to making sure every student feels seen, valued, and empowered to succeed—both in the classroom and beyond.”
